Project Management

Project management is tough stuff that requires serious planning, practical time management and a lot of hard work. I have experience managing projects of all sorts; Website Development, Class Projects, Earth Day Events, Historical Lectures, & Workshops are just a few. Through my experiences, I have learned that communication, critical thinking, quick decision making and teamwork are key elements to successful project management. Here are some examples of my work on web development projects.

Site Evaluation

The first project required the evaluation of the Clinton Presidential Library Museum Store eCommerce website. We evaluated the site and offered suggestions to make it easier to find and appear more credible. We also made suggestions that would make the site more usable, accessible, desirable and useful. It is important to evaluate websites from the user’s perspective in order to increase the popularity of the site.

Site Renovation

The second project required getting to know about Nelson Mears and his work for the re-dedication of the Grant County Veterans Memorial Park.

During the project, we worked together to renovate his current site. We picked a new theme, reorganized the pages, edited the content, added images, and included a timeline. Renovating the Grant County Veterans Memorial Park website has taught me how to analyze and refurbish websites.

Site Development

The last project required full scale development of websites. On one project I worked with a group to develop a user friendly website that could be quickly passed on to the  Jacksonville High School Newspaper staff. We designed the whole website through WordPress. I have learned how to work well with the WordPress interface to meet the needs and creatives wishes of clients. The Jacksonville Journal is a clean, open template for young web developers and journalists to learn on.

Overall, my work on project development has improved my communication and time management skills. I have experience working on a multitude of projects as a part of a team and on my own, which has taught me how to organize and manage the work accordingly. For each of the projects, a proposal and plan was prepared and delivered to the client to be sure that the purpose of the project was clear. Timelines were set and adjusted as necessary, requiring a great deal of communication and flexibility. The steps of the project were declared and accomplished, while keeping in mind the purpose and the target audience of the project. I will be able to use these skills to meet the demands of any project that may advance my career and my personal life.
